Inaugural Group Exhibition

CHICAGO, IL -- rowlandcontemporary, a new gallery in Chicago's West Loop, is pleased to announce its inaugural group exhibition Cold Cuts, featuring work by Nancy Ford, Joan Linder, Robert MacDonald, Sheila Pepe, Diana Puntar and Amy Talluto. Join us for an opening reception Friday, September 9 from 6-9pm. Gallery Hours are Saturday 11-5pm or by appointment. This exhibition will run through October 16.

Chicago-based artist Nancy Ford creates drawings of singular objects that resonate with influences as diverse as Shaker drawings, Native American culture, and cartography. Ford received her BFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, MD, and her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL. Ford's work has been included in exhibitions at Midway Contemporary Art (St. Paul, MN), Artists Space (New York, NY), and Keith Talent Gallery (London, England).

Joan Linder's exquisitely detailed drawings explore gender dynamics, systems of power, emotions and memory. She received her BFA from Tufts University, Medford, MA, and her MFA from Columbia University, New York, NY. Linder has had solo exhibitions at Mixed Greens (New York, NY), Riva Gallery (New York, NY), and Katharina Rich Perlow (New York, NY). Her work has been reviewed in Newsday, ARTnews, The New York Times, Boston Herald and KQED, FM. She was awarded artist residencies at Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY (2002), Karl Hofer Gesellschaft, Berlin, Germany (1999), and Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine (1999), and received a grant from the Pollack-Krasner Foundation in 2001. rowlandcontemporary will also present Linder's first solo exhibition in Chicago in spring 2006.

Brooklyn-based artist Robert MacDonald creates intricate drawings that reference both Rorschach tests, and 18th century natural history illustration. MacDonald received his BA from the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and his MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He also attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. MacDonald's work has been exhibited at Jessica Murray Projects (New York, NY), Salon 75 (Brooklyn, NY), Brickbottom (Boston, MA) and The Berkshire Museum (Pittsfield, MA). MacDonald will have his first solo exhibition at rowlandcontemporary in May 2006.

Best known for her dynamic large scale installations, Sheila Pepe's constructed paper works yield powerful stories of big city life. Pepe received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art (Boston, MA) and her MFA from School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA). Pepe has held solo exhibitions at Susan Inglett Gallery (New York, NY), Bernard Toale Gallery (Boston, MA), and the University of Massachusetts (Amherst, MA). Her work has been included in exhibitions with P.S.1/Museum of Modern Art (Long Island City, NY), the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia, PA), and Jessica Murray Projects (New York, NY). Pepe's work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Art in America, Art on Paper, The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the New Yorker. Her work is in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, Goldman Sachs, New York, NY, and List Visual Art Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA, among others. Pepe is also the recipient of a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. Look for Pepe's solo debut exhibition in Chicago at rowlandcontemporary in spring 2006.

Made from common materials, Diana Puntar creates ersatz objects that exist in a contrapuntal landscape. Puntar received her BA from The University of Maryland, College Park, MD, and her MFA from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA. Puntar recently had a solo exhibition at Participant, Inc. (New York, NY), and participated in exhibitions at Samson Projects (Boston, MA), Jack the Pelican (Brooklyn, NY), Bellwether Gallery (Brooklyn, NY) and Luhring Augustine Gallery (New York, NY). Puntar has also held residencies at Art Omi, Columbia County, NY (2004), Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY (2002), and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT (1996).

Using formal artistic devices, Amy Talluto's landscape-based paintings and ink drawings unfold as intense psychological narratives. Talluto received her BFA from Washington University, St. Louis, MO, and her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY. She recently held a residency at the Vermont Studio Center. Talluto's work has been included in exhibitions at Naked Duck Gallery (New York, NY), and the Dieu Donné Papermill (New York, NY). rowlandcontemporary is proud to present Talluto's first solo exhibition, "Mud Season", October 21- December 3, 2005.
